Dozens of Department of Aviation team members touted the world’s busiest and most efficient airport during the 14th annual Aviation Day at the Capitol on Jan. 31.

Airport representatives set up large informational placards and passed out brochures and promotional items to state legislators. Some items focused on ATLNext, the Airport’s 20-year, multibillion-dollar capital improvement program underway.

“We were very excited to inform our legislators about ATLNext,” said ATL Government Affairs Manager Walter Vinson, the event’s organizer. “That was the main priority of Aviation Day.”

Student groups also visited the Atlanta Fire Rescue and Atlanta Police booths for replica helmets and other keepsakes during their tour of the Gold Dome.

New additions this year included large monitors looping ATL’s highlights and K-9 unit initiatives.

“The video element helps us tell the story,” Vinson said. “To add video makes it more appealing.”

Aviation Day at the Capitol began in 2004, and it remains one of the Airport’s premier outreach programs.
