Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update from Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL)

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

As news of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) continues to evolve, we want you to know that the safety of our employees, passengers, and of our partners, is our top priority. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and our partners are working closely together to help manage and mitigate the spread of the virus in our environment.
Our partners consist of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Transportation and Security Administration (TSA), AATC, airlines, contractors, and concessionaires.
As this is a rapidly evolving public health issue, the CDC will continue to conduct enhanced screenings of passengers exhibiting symptoms.
Effective Apr. 18, 2022, TSA will no longer enforce its Security Directives and Emergency Amendment requiring mask use on public transportation and transportation hubs. CDC continues to recommend that people wear masks in indoor public transportation settings at this time. For more information, please visit https://www.tsa.gov/coronavirus.
COVID-19 Test requirements for International travelers:
The CDC has rescinded the order requiring a negative pre-departure COVID-19 test prior to flights to the US. Starting June 12, 2022, air passengers will not need to get tested and show the COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 prior to boarding a flight to the U.S. For more information and FAQs, please visit https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2022/s0610-COVID-19-test.html

The agency encourages all to follow these precautions:

  • Avoid close contact with sick individuals.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Stay home if you are ill.

Here at ATL, we have implemented measures that include:

  • Increased frequency of cleaning of public areas
  • Use of environmentally friendly cleaning and disinfectant in public areas
  • Additional education and training of employees
  • Daily coordination with public health, CDC, and other agencies for updates, additional guidance, and instructions

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

Do I need to be concerned if I have a flight today?

If you have an upcoming flight, please check with your airline to make sure there have not been any cancellations or changes to your itinerary. Passengers should contact their airline to determine whether a test is needed in advance of an international flight.  Also, consider carrying disinfectant wipes so that you can wipe down the area on the plane where you will be seated.

 

Should I wear a mask? 

Federal law does not require wearing a face mask. Masks are optional for all airport employees, crew members, and customers inside U.S. airports and onboard all aircraft domestically, as well as on most international flights.

Do you provide face coverings?

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport provides face coverings to passengers who do not have one at the Domestic and International main checkpoints. Masks and face coverings are also available for purchase at various retail locations.

 

Is hand sanitizer available? 

There are more than 400 hand sanitizer stations located throughout the terminals. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer can also be purchased at most of the newsstands and retail locations throughout the Airport.

 

Should I arrive early for my flight?

Always plan to arrive at least two (2) hours before domestic flights, three (3) hours before international flights to give yourself plenty of time to clear security.
