Andrew Gobeil

Senior Director, Corporate Communications and Media Relations

As the senior director of the Office of Corporate Communications and Media Relations, Andrew Gobeil oversees public affairs outreach and provides message guidance for all aspects of the world’s busiest and most efficient airport.  Such guidance includes communications strategies for Airport operations, crisis events, implementation of the multibillion-dollar capital improvement program, political impacts, security efforts, and non-aeronautical revenue generation. He and his staff facilitate local, national, and international media coverage of ATL, and he serves as the Airport’s spokesman.

Aviation is a second career for Mr. Gobeil: his first calling was journalism. He was a radio newscaster at 15, one of NPR’s youngest affiliate News Directors in his 20s, and a Capitol Hill-based national television correspondent in his mid-30s. In his career he participated in White House press conferences, moderated gubernatorial debates, walked into forest fires, flown into hurricanes, and once pulled nine Gs in an Air Force F-16.

Mr. Gobeil earned a Bachelor of Science degree in history from Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts. In 2018, he was named an International Airport Professional (IAP) after completing the Global ACI-ICAO Airport Management Accreditation Programme.

A father of two sons, Mr. Gobeil – a native of Cape Cod – lives in Atlanta. He is currently writing a book on the history of local television coverage of the Civil Rights Movement.
