The unique event welcomed runners and walkers of various ages and abilities for the predawn start on Oct. 16.

Over 1,600 runners and walkers returned to Runway 10-28 with Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms during her final round as host of the Mayor’s 5K on the 5th runway.

Airport General Manager Balram “B” Bheodari welcomed the crowd to see one of the flattest – and fastest – courses in metro Atlanta. Bottoms was joined by four Atlanta Olympic medalists – Christian Coleman, Dwight Phillips, Angelo Taylor, Edwin Moses and Terrence Trammell – serving as part of the Mayor’s “Heat.”

Pre-race activities brought out the Atlanta Hawks cheerleaders, the Atlanta Drum Line, a hype DJ, smoothie samples and line dancing among the attendees.

For the third year, race proceeds will help Atlanta students with college tuition through the Mayor’s Youth Scholarship Program. Race proceeds including sponsor donations helped to provide $500,000 in scholarships to 92 Atlanta youth at 36 universities this year.

This year’s sponsors included Delta Air Lines, Enterprise Holdings, Woodward Academy, Braves, AT&T, Jackmont Hospitality, the Hudson Group and MARTA.

Various City of Atlanta and Aviation departments collaborated to organize this hallmark event: Maintenance, Operations, Parking, Marketing, Mayor’s Office of Communications, Ground Transportation, and more. To access the list of winners, click here
