ATL Apprenticeship Program

Accelerate your career as an apprentice in our new ATL Facilities Maintenance Apprenticeship Program.

No prior experience is necessary. With paid apprenticeship opportunities available in the roles of welding, HVAC, plumbing, construction-heavy equipment operations and electrical work, you can make a lasting impact in the ATL community.

Careers-Seekers

ATL Apprenticeship Program FAQ

The ATL Apprenticeship Program is a registered Apprenticeship with the Georgia Department of Labor in partnership with an accredited approved College, University or Training Provider. It is a work-based training method that combines formal instruction with on-site, occupation-related training. ATL Apprentices work 40 hours per week and receive classroom training from instructors from Atlanta Technical College through part-time attendance at our on-site TSOD training room. The length of the program depends upon the position and can last between two or three years. Pay starts at a $20/hour minimum with $.75 wage increases per milestone mastery.

Current Employees = Incumbent Workers
Career-Seekers = New Hires

New Hires:

  1. 18 yrs or older
  2. High School Diploma or GED
  3. Pass a background and drug screening
  4. Meet physical requirements
  5. Basic knowledge of the industry

Incumbent Employees:

  1. Performance Review of a 3 or higher score (Includes good attendance)
  2. Minimum of 1 year in current role
  3. The position of interest must be in a higher grade than current role (no lateral movement)
  1. Complete an application on the City of Atlanta Careers website.
  2. Qualified applicants will be forwarded to the hiring supervisor.
  3. Selected applicants will be interviewed and notified if they are accepted into the ATL Apprenticeship Program.

  1. Related Training & Instruction (RTI)
    The Georgia Department of Labor determines the required number of hours of classroom instruction per Trade.
    The required instruction can only be provided by an approved College, University or Training Provider as authorized by the Georgia Department of Labor.
  2. On-The-Job Learning (OJL)
    The Georgia Department of Labor determines the required number of hours of on-site occupational training per Trade.
    Apprentices are full-time employees required to work 40 hours. Four hours of the workweek will be spent in the classroom.
  3. Mentor
    All Apprentices will be assigned a Mentor to aid in professional career development. Mentors will meet with Apprentices at least one hour per month.
  4. Soft-Skills Training
    All Apprentices will be required to participate in scheduled Soft Skills Training.
  5. Testing for the National Credential associated with the occupation (certification or license).
