ATL Workforce offers paid, hands-on programs for students, job seekers, and educators to prepare for careers in aviation and beyond.

Registered Apprenticeship Program

The Registered Apprenticeship Program provides paid, hands-on training in trades such as HVAC, welding, and electrical. Applications are cohort-based and open only when business needs determine additional apprentices are required. Applicants must be 18 years or older and apply directly through the City of Atlanta’s website when positions are posted. This program offers a nationally recognized pathway to high-demand careers at ATL.

Summer Youth Employment Program

The Summer Youth Employment Program is a six-week paid summer job opportunity for rising high school juniors and seniors across Metro Atlanta. Applications are open from the first week of February through mid-March each year. Eligible students must apply through the City of Atlanta’s website. The program provides valuable workplace skills, mentorship, and exposure to career pathways in aviation.

College Intern Program

The College Internship Program offers undergraduate students the chance to gain full-time, paid summer experience at ATL. Recruitment takes place from January to March each year. Applicants must have completed at least one year of college and hold a 2.5 GPA or higher. Applications are submitted directly through the City of Atlanta’s website during the open period.

Mentorship Program

The Mentorship Program is a mandatory component for all Workforce participants, ensuring they receive professional guidance during their program. Participants are automatically matched with mentors, so no separate application is needed. For professionals interested in becoming mentors, an annual airport-wide email invitation is sent, or individuals can contact the team directly at atlworkforce@atl.com. This ensures a strong network of leaders supporting ATL’s future workforce.

Teacher Externship Program

The Teacher Externship Program gives K–12 educators direct access to behind-the-scenes learning at ATL to bring aviation career pathways back into their classrooms. Educators must send a request via email to atlworkforce@atl.com at least 30–45 days in advance to secure participation. Space is limited and coordinated in partnership with schools and ATL Workforce staff. This program helps teachers align classroom instruction with real-world aviation opportunities.

Youth Apprenticeship Program

The Youth Apprenticeship Program allows high school juniors and seniors to gain paid, part-time trade experience while earning school credit. Applications are accepted based on organizational needs and may vary each year. Students may apply through their Work-Based Learning Coordinator or Career Counselor, or independently on the City of Atlanta’s website. To qualify, students must attend Clayton County, Fulton County, or Atlanta Public Schools, with trade-specific placements aligned by district.

Tours Program

The Tours Program offers behind-the-scenes experiences for students and educators to explore ATL operations. For Clayton County 10th graders, tours are arranged directly through the CTAE Coordinator. All other tour requests are scheduled by Community Affairs, with tours offered twice per month from August to March during the school year. This program is designed to spark student interest in aviation careers.

High School / College Innovation Program

The Innovation Program engages students in solving current business challenges at ATL and presenting their solutions to Airport leaders. There is no public application process — participants are selected by their CTAE Coordinators based on the challenges provided. Each school year includes four cohorts of 25–30 students who participate in tours, research, and pitch presentations. Faculty or schools interested in involvement should contact the Youth Program Coordinator Nadia Bradford.
