Forever I Love Atlanta: ATL Celebrates 404 Day

If you’re gearing up for a journey or just love a good celebration, Atlanta’s got something special brewing … it’s 404 Day! No, it’s not an error code, it’s a day dedicated to all things Atlanta, celebrating the city’s vibrant culture, delicious cuisine, and unique shopping experiences. And where better to soak it all in than at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)?

What is 404 Day?

404 Day in Atlanta has its roots in the city’s iconic area code, 404, which has long been synonymous with Atlanta itself. The celebration originated as a grassroots movement, with locals embracing April 4th (4/04) as a day to honor their city’s culture, community, and creativity. What started as a simple nod to Atlanta’s telephone area code has blossomed into a citywide celebration with events, promotions, and festivities popping up all over town. From concerts and art exhibits to food festivals and neighborhood cleanups, 404 Day has become a beloved tradition, showcasing the pride and passion that Atlantans have for their city. It’s a day to come together, celebrate what makes Atlanta special, and spread love and positivity throughout the community.

SHOPPING AT ATL

First things first, let’s talk shopping. ATL isn’t just about catching flights; it’s a shopper’s paradise too. From luxury brands to local boutiques, you’ll find it all right here in the Airport. Need a last-minute souvenir? You can swing by several different retailers for some Atlanta-themed gifts.

DINING AT ATL

Now, let’s dive into the culinary scene. ATL is a foodie’s dream come true. Indulge in some of Atlanta’s own hometown eateries with locations right in the Airport. Craving some classic Southern comfort food? Head over to Paschal’s on Concourse B. Considered an Atlanta institution, the original Paschal’s is best known for serving as the unofficial headquarters of the Civil Rights Movement, where Dr. King and other notable civil rights leaders would convene, eat and strategize. Today, you can stop by the Airport location to get a taste of their famous fried chicken and collard greens.

Looking to experience another iconic part of Atlanta’s culture? Look no further than The Varsity on concourses C and F. Another Downtown Atlanta eatery that started in 1928, The Varsity is known for their famous hot dogs, specifically their chili dogs and signature Varsity Orange drink. You even get the true The Varsity experience with the staff yelling out the famous line, “What’ll ya have…what’ll ya have?” when it’s time to place your order.

ART + HISTORY AT ATL

In addition to all the fabulous food and retail options, ATL has an excellent art program. With over 1,000 artworks in one of the largest public art sites in the Southeastern U.S., there is plenty to explore.

Want to stretch your legs? Instead of taking the Plane Train, take a stroll between concourses (called the Transportation Mall) and admire the incredible artwork on display. There is an awesome exhibit between concourses B and C that illustrates Atlanta’s rich history and there are multiple opportunities throughout the Airport to experience art created by Atlanta based artists.

So, there you have it, folks – a list of ways you can celebrate your very own 404 Day here at ATL. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or just passing through, there’s something for everyone to love about this vibrant city. Remember, ATL’s waiting to welcome you with open arms and when you leave, we hope you too will be yelling, “Forever I love Atlanta!”
