Hartsfield-Jackson and TSA to Mark 18th Anniversary of Sept. 11
Ceremony remembers and honors victims of 9/11 attacks

ATLANTA – While filled with tens of thousands of travelers and employees on Sept. 11 at 8:46 a.m.—the moment the first flight crashed into the World Trade Center—the world’s busiest airport will reflect in still silence. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) leaders will mark the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with a ceremony to remember all those who lost their lives.

Airport Deputy General Manager Balram Bheodari, TSA Federal Security Director Mary V. Leftridge Byrd and other federal and Airport officials will offer remarks. The ceremony will also include a presentation and retiring of colors by the TSA Honor Guard, a musical selection from the TSA Choral Group, and other special performances.

This year, the moment of silence will be observed throughout the Airport. After an announcement is made over the Airport’s public address system, TSA will activate and suspend all operations. At ceremony underway in the Domestic atrium, the chaplain will ask all to pause to honor and remember those who lost their lives. Also, for the first time, there will be a special reflections and remembrance presentation by four TSA Explosive Detection canine handlers who will share details of their canines, each named after 9/11 victims.
