Hartsfield-Jackson Wins US Green Building Council Georgia 2020 Community Impact Award
ATL recognized for LEED and other sustainability achievements
ATLANTA – Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) was awarded the 2020 Community Impact Award by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) Georgia at their 2020 Chrysalis Awards. ATL was recognized for its commitment to prioritizing sustainability standards within all planning, design and construction projects including ATLNext, its 20-year, multibillion-dollar capital improvement program.
In addition, ATL was commended for obtaining multiple sustainability driven certifications such as Parksmart, the world's only certification program that defines, measures and recognizes high-performing, sustainable garages; Envision, a rating system and best practice resource for implementing sustainability into infrastructure projects; and LEED, the most widely used green building rating system in the world.
Most notably, ATL is the first airport in the world to earn LEED for Communities certification. ATL continues these sustainability efforts by pursuing re-certification under the new LEED for Communities v4.1 standard by incorporating the initiatives into the redevelopment of its Sustainable Management Plan.
“At Hartsfield-Jackson, we are committed to building and operating our campus as efficiently and responsibly as possible,” said Tom Nissalke, Assistant General Manager of Planning and Development. “I am incredibly proud of our team for receiving this honor as we continue our dedication to sustainability.”
USGBC Georgia created the Chrysalis Awards to support and honor leaders transforming Georgia’s green building and green communities. The winners were announced virtually on Aug. 13.
