Hartsfield-Jackson Prepares For Busy Spring Break

4.9 million passengers are expected to travel through ATL during spring holiday period

ATLANTA – In preparation for a busy spring travel season, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) officials are providing tips to passengers to better navigate the Airport’s increased traffic volume. Additionally, the Airport is introducing a unique dynamic messaging system to remind passengers that weapons are not allowed at the security checkpoints and secured areas.

More than 4.9 million passengers are expected to travel to, from, or through ATL beginning Friday, April 1 until Monday, April 18. Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays are traditionally considered the busiest days for leisure travelers. Airport projections point to Sunday, April 3, as the busiest day with 310,000 passengers expected in ATL.

“We’re seeing travel numbers climb back to near pre-pandemic figures, “said ATL General Manager Balram “B” Bheodari (Bee-uh-DAR-ee). “We look forward to hosting our visitors, and we remind all that maintaining our stellar levels of efficiency requires the participation of the Airport, our partners, and our travelers.”

Passengers should arrive in the Airport at least two hours prior to their scheduled departure times for domestic flights, three hours for international flights. ATL’s website (ATL.com) provides current information about parking options, security wait times, and open concessionaires. The Airport’s social media channels (@ATLairport) are a valuable resource for visitors as well. Passengers are also urged to monitor the website and social media channels of their airlines.

To remind passengers that weapons are not allowed in the security checkpoints, ATL will deploy a hologram in the security queuing area. Beginning the weekend of Saturday, April 2, the hologram’s dynamic display will remind passengers that weapons are prohibited in carry-on luggage.
