Hartsfield-Jackson Prepares for Busy Spring Break Travel and Announces North Roadway Closures

4.4 million passengers are expected to travel through ATL during spring holiday period

ATLANTA – In preparation for a busy spring travel season, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) officials are providing tips to passengers to better navigate the Airport’s increased traffic volume. Additionally, the Airport is providing details on the upcoming closures on the North Roadway.

Spring Break Travel

More than 4.4 million passengers are expected to travel to, from, or through ATL beginning Sunday, March 26 until Sunday, April 9. Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays are traditionally considered the busiest days for leisure travelers. Airport projections point to Friday, March 31, as the busiest day with more than 333,000 passengers expected in ATL.

Passengers should arrive in the Airport at least two and a half hours prior to their scheduled departure times for domestic flights and three hours for international flights. ATL’s website—ATL.com—provides current information about parking options, security wait times, and open concessionaires. Passengers are also encouraged to monitor the Airport’s social media channels (@ATLairport) and the social media channels of their airlines for updates.

Airport officials also encourage all passengers to thoroughly inspect their luggage and belongings prior to arriving at the Airport to ensure they are not bringing prohibited items through the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint. As a reminder, all firearms and ammunition must be properly packaged and placed in checked bags. To remain compliant with TSA regulations, visit the “What Can I Bring?” page on TSA.gov for more detailed information.

North Parking Deck Shoring and Closure Updates

ATL continues work on its Parking Deck Renewal Project as it prepares to enter Phase 2 of shoring activity.  All North lower-level lanes will be closed for 72 hours beginning March 27 at 10 p.m. and ending March 30 at 10 p.m. During this time, off airport shuttles will relocate to the outer curb of the North upper-level roadway. Phase 2 begins March 31 and all North Parking Deck shoring is scheduled to be completed June 2. Passengers are urged to utilize the ATLWest parking deck for quick, efficient parking options.

As a reminder, green-coated ATL Customer Service Representatives are always available to provide answers, directions, and tips for travelers.
