Hartsfield-Jackson Prepares for Busy Holiday Travel Period

Nearly 4 million passengers expected at ATL over the coming weeks

ATLANTA – The busiest travel season of the year is here, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is ready to welcome 3.7 million travelers from Friday, Dec. 20, through Sunday, Jan. 5. With an expected peak on Friday, Dec. 27, with 327,724 passengers, the Airport is sharing essential travel tips to assist in making your holiday travel go smoother.

Passengers are advised to arrive at the Airport at least two hours before departure for domestic flights and three hours for international ones.

To stay informed in real-time, passengers should check atl.com for updates on parking availability, security wait times, and dining options. Travelers should also follow ATLairport on social media and stay tuned to their airline’s platforms for flight-specific updates.

During the holiday season, ATL parking lots frequently reach capacity, and ongoing construction may cause some congestion. Travelers are encouraged to visit atl.com for information essential to their travel plans. Customers may also make reservations for the ATL West Deck, ATL Select parking lot, and International Terminal parking decks through atl.com.

Another option is public transit. MARTA is an excellent option, as are taxis and ATL’s three licensed rideshare options: Uber, Lyft, and HERide. The Rideshare Pickup Zone is located near the North Terminal Economy Lot and is roughly a five-minute walk from the Domestic Terminal. Customer Service Representatives and signage throughout the Airport direct customers to that location.

Passengers are encouraged to pack with intention and to double-check their bags before leaving home. Reviewing the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) "What Can I Bring?" can help prevent delays. Firearms and ammunition must be stored properly in checked luggage.

To enhance the traveling experience, ATL recently introduced 18 real-time passenger information totems throughout the pre-security areas that display expected wait times at security checkpoints.

During this busy travel season, guests should stay alert to suspicious activities and remember, if you see something, say something — call 911 in an emergency. ATL green-coated guest service representatives are always ready to assist and answer questions.
