Hartsfield-Jackson Drug Interdiction Unit Assists in Major Drug Seizure

Coordinated effort results in safe apprehension of suspect and narcotics

ATLANTA – Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport’s (ATL) Drug Interdiction Unit, in collaboration with Ontario International Airport (ONT) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), successfully intercepted a passenger transporting a significant quantity of illegal narcotics.

On March 15, acting on intelligence from HSI at ONT, ATL’s Drug Interdiction Unit coordinated with airport law enforcement to apprehend the individual upon arrival in Atlanta. The suspect, who was traveling on a Delta Air Lines flight, had checked two bags—one of which was intercepted before departure, while the second bag accompanied the passenger on the flight.

Upon arrival at ATL, the suspect was taken into custody without incident. The intercepted luggage contained approximately 35.8 pounds of methamphetamine and 4.6 pounds of fentanyl.

“Hartsfield-Jackson remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all passengers and staff,” said Airport Interim General Manager Jan Lennon. “This successful interdiction demonstrates the effectiveness of our law enforcement partnerships and our commitment to disrupting the flow of illegal substances through our airport.”

HSI has assumed control of the case, and an investigation is ongoing.

Photos of the narcotics recovered and a video of the K9 officer alerting on the luggage may be found at this link:  Airport - Narcotics Case - 250748042
