Hartsfield-Jackson to Hosts 18th Annual FODWalk

Runway cleanup begins daylong focus on ATL’s safety

MEDIA ATTENDING MUST NOTE REQUIREMENTS AND LOCATION BELOW

ATLANTA –Nearly 100 Airport employees will rise early Tuesday, August 20, to walk and clear Foreign Object Debris (FOD) from one of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport’s (ATL) runways. It’s all part of the 18th annual ATL FODWalk, an event promoting safety and security at the world’s busiest passenger airport.

FOD inspections occur throughout the day to keep ATL runways clear of debris, which could cause serious damage to aircrafts. During the FODWalk, Airport officials close Runway 8L-26R and the North Cargo ramp for about 30 minutes so Airport volunteers can walk the 9,000-foot runway to experience and complement inspections conducted by ATL airside operations.
