Hartsfield-Jackson 2021 Passenger Numbers Nearly Double Prior Year

Newly released 2021 report show significant increase in traffic numbers

ATLANTA – Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) announced today the release of the 2021 traffic report. According to the report, ATL served more than 75 million passengers in 2021, a significant increase of 76 percent from the 42.9 million passengers served in 2020. Aircraft operations also saw an increase of 29 percent from 2020 with a total of 707,661 takeoffs and landings. This growth in passenger traffic and aircraft operations signifies ATL’s rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic and strong return of the domestic leisure traveler.

“The COVID-19 pandemic brought on unprecedented challenges,” said Airport General Manager Balram “B” Bheodari. “Our 2021 success is a testament to the hard work of the ATL team who consistently demonstrate their commitment to excellence in safety, efficiency and service. I am incredibly proud of our ATL team and anticipate an even more successful 2022.”

Another highlight of the report includes the continued growth to ATL’s cargo operations. ATL had a 22 percent increase in cargo operations with over 730,000 metric tons of cargo in 2021.

Traffic data totals are calculated based on airline numbers. To access the full report, please visit ATL’s operating statistics page: https://www.atl.com/business-information/statistics/.
