Motorists to be Rerouted Around Camp Creek Parkway Closure Near ATL This Weekend

Roadway section will be closed twice for construction of pedestrian bridge beginning Sept. 20

ATLANTA—Due to a roadway closure, motorists traveling to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and the areas near the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC) should consider alternative routes.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) plans to close traffic on Camp Creek Parkway/State Road 6 between Conley Street and Airport Drive near the GICC twice over the next two months. The first closure will be this weekend from 9 p.m. on Friday, September 20, until 5 a.m. on Monday, September 23, weather and on-site conditions permitting. A second shutdown is scheduled from 9 p.m. on Friday, October 4, until 5 a.m. on Monday, October 7.

Roadway closures are necessary to ensure worker and motorist safety, as GDOT crews bring in large equipment and bridge components to construct the City of College Park’s Global Gateway Connector Pedestrian Bridge.

On-site signage will direct traffic to the detour route around the closure, and law enforcement will assist. Westbound and eastbound traffic approaching Camp Creek Parkway to and from ATL will be detoured to the Convention Center Concourse.

During this time, motorists should expect traffic delays. We ask that they exercise caution and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. For real-time information about work status and traffic conditions, please call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
