Mayor Andre Dickens Hosts 10th Annual Mayor’s 5K on the 5th Runway

Annual race benefits the Mayor’s Youth Scholarship Program

 

MEDIA ATTENDING MUST NOTE REQUIREMENTS BELOW

 

ATLANTA – Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens will join Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) Interim General Manager Jan Lennon on Oct. 5 for the 10th annual Mayor’s 5K on the 5th Runway. In partnership with the United Way of Greater Atlanta, this race offers participants the incredible opportunity to run or walk on ATL’s 5th runway — one of the flattest and fastest courses in Greater Atlanta. The Mayor’s 5K on the 5th Runway also serves as a USATF-certified 5K course/AJC Peachtree Road Race qualifier. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Mayor’s Youth Scholarship Program.

Important information for all participants:

 

Government-issued ID is required. The registrant’s name must match the submitted government-issued ID. Those without ID and/or who cannot be screened will NOT participate. Bags are strictly prohibited (e.g., backpacks, shoulder bags, sling bags, etc.). No water bottles, hydration packs, etc., are allowed. Water will be provided. Small fanny packs at 5’’ x 7” x 1” will be allowed. Fanny packs and cellphone armbands are subject to inspection.

MARTA
Please note that MARTA service will not begin before 6 a.m., so runners should make alternate transportation arrangements.

 

Camp Creek Parkway Closure
Motorists traveling near Hartsfield-Jackson and the Georgia International Convention Center should be aware that the Camp Creek Parkway will be closed for construction of a pedestrian bridge this weekend with detours in place. Due to the closure, travelers should consider alternate routes.

WHAT:            Mayor’s 10th Annual 5K on the 5th Runway

WHEN:             Saturday, Oct. 5

 

Check-in / bib pickup: 4 a.m.

                           Race lineup: 6:15 a.m.

                           Official start: 6:30 a.m.

                           Finish: 7:30 a.m. (course will close at 7:30 a.m.)

                         Awards Ceremony: 7:45 a.m.

NOTES FOR MEDIA:

 

As this event is post-security, attending media must RSVP with full name and date of birth as it appears on government issued ID to media@atl.com by Noon, Friday, Oct. 4.

 

Any members of the media interested in staging on airfield must indicate so when providing RSVP.

        

PARKING:

 

Satellite/live trucks will be allowed to park on the lawn in front of Fire Station 33. All other media vehicles must have a branded station decal/placard.

Trucks must be staged by 4 a.m. Media staging on airfield must check-in by 4 a.m. All media must check-in by 4:15 a.m.

 

LIVE ACCESS:

 

Satellite trucks and other vehicles will NOT be allowed on the airfield. Live shots are possible from the airfield with backpack equipment. No cables are permitted on the airfield. Reporters can go live from their satellite trucks on the pre-security side of Fire Station 33.
