South Parking Deck Pedestrian Bridge Work Begins This Weekend
Customers should prepare for adjusted traffic patterns, relocation of services
ATLANTA — The ongoing modernization of the world’s busiest and most efficient airport through its ATLNext program is a heavy lift. Few, however, will be as heavy as the one Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) will undertake starting this weekend.
On Saturday, Oct. 19, crews will prepare to lift the first of three South Parking Deck Pedestrian Bridge segments. Saturday’s two-crane operation will require closing all South Terminal upper lanes, the Ground Transportation Center, and multiple service relocations from 4 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 20.
Roadway closures for the second bridge segment are slated for Monday, Oct. 21, from 8:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22. The third segment is planned for Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 8:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23. Additional work to complete the project will occur on Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 8:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24.
During this period, customers are encouraged to plan more time for their journey or use alternative transportation methods. Passengers using Ground Transportation Services such as taxis, hotel/regional/local shuttles, and on-Airport parking shuttles are encouraged to follow the orange detour signage to the temporary locations. ATL Customer Service Representatives will also be available to assist. For more information on this project, click here.
NOTE FOR MEDIA: Senior Deputy General Manager of Infrastructure Frank Rucker will be available to discuss this project.
