Live Feed Available for Media to Cover ATL Canopy Centennial Countdown

ATL drones will document the unique LED countdown and display marking the start of the Airport’s centennial celebrations; media will have access to live feed.

ATLANTA – On New Year’s Eve, the world’s busiest airport will launch its centennial celebration with a one-of-a-kind canopy countdown to coincide with the start of ATL’s 100th anniversary.  The twin 900-foot-long canopies, illuminated with special LED designs to mark holidays and other events, will serve as a canvas for the display.

ATL will provide a live feed of the Airport’s canopy lighting scene beginning at 11:50 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31. At 11:59:00 p.m., the countdown will begin and will conclude at midnight with the unveiling of the new canopy lighting design. The live feed will close at approximately 12:20 a.m.

A clean link to the video will be made available to media at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.

The City of Atlanta signed a five-year lease on April 16, 1925, to turn an abandoned racetrack into a 287-acre airfield. One hundred years later, that racetrack is now the world’s busiest airport, serving more than 100 million passengers a year. The 18-month celebration will include a centennial gala, art displays, stories documenting the Airport’s vibrant history, and a look into transportation systems of the future.
